Employers are doing deeper and deeper background checks into their current employees and future hires and there is no reason to give them a reason to fire or not hire you when there is something that you may be able to do to mitigate or eliminate your criminal record - especially when you may have an opportunity to make it all disappear.
Expungement is the legal process in the State of California where a criminal conviction is dismissed. Expungement is the legal way of getting a guilty plea, a no contest plea or a finding of guilt by a judge or jury set aside and the case is dismissed. At the end of the process, an Expungement relieves the defendant of specific penalties and disabilities that were the result of the criminal action prosecuted against them. The arrest, prosecution and conviction records will remain in the court file, but a notion is put into the file and noted that the conviction has been dismissed. Inside your court file there will be a notation that says the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation files will reflect that a plea of not guilty was entered and the case ordered to be dismissed by the court. The file is still there, it has not been destroyed, but the information in that file cannot be used to keep you from getting a job based on a conviction in court.
You have the right to lawfully say NO when filling out forms, except government agencies, to the question, "Have you ever been convicted of a crime?"
Fill out a credit application, an employment application, run for Congress and compete with family, friends and strangers on an even playing field for your dreams.
Never worry about someone finding out about your criminal background and using it against you.
